Privacy-First Search Engine
Agile Delivery Lead | Privacy Technology
I led the Agile delivery of Startpage — a secure, privacy-first search engine that gives users untracked search across the internet, with no profiling, tracking, or storage of personal data.
The product:
Private, untracked search — search results delivered without tracking activity, storing history, or building user profiles.
Anonymous View — the platform's standout privacy capability: users could open and read any search result through a secure proxy, with the site loaded and rendered on their behalf, never exposing the user's identity or device to the destination site.
My role:
I owned end-to-end QA and Agile delivery for the project — running sprint planning and execution, managing the backlog, coordinating cross-functional development and QA, and safeguarding release quality on a product where privacy and reliability were non-negotiable. I remained accountable for delivery through to the point the product was acquired by another company.
Outcome: A production-grade privacy platform delivering genuinely anonymous search and browsing to users — maintained at a quality and reliability standard high enough to carry it through to a successful acquisition.
